What are Strengthening Exercises?
Strengthening exercises are exercises which are designed to increase the strength of specific or groups of muscles. Strengthening exercises overload the muscle until the point of muscle fatigue. This force and overload of a muscle encourages the growth, increasing the strength. Weak muscles can increase the risk of injury to the surrounding joints and soft tissues.
Strengthening exercises will include a variety of exercises designed to target specific groups or individual muscles. These exercises will begin easier and progress as strength is developed. Some of the exercises may involve the following:
- Exercising against gravity
- Exercising against the resistance of water
- Exercising against a resistance band
- Exercising with weight
- Enhances physical performance
- Exercising using your own body weight as the load

What Our Clients Say
I chose this place after reading some of these great reviews. Needed some help with my upper back after an accident. The initial consultation was extremely thorough and they got a full picture of my situation and any limitations or existing issues I have. All of the staff from front desk to assistants to therapsids are all very friendly and knowledgeable. It seems like it’s one, big family. Each visit I may be with someone different, but they all know my needs and are aware of my progress for the prior session. It’s a very relaxed, wide open space with everything you’d need to help recover from whatever you’re there for. Never too crowded and never a time where there is not enough equipment. Also never really and issue getting the dates/times I need for each appointment. I’ve been able to move them around with relative ease as-needed based on my busy schedule…so that accommodation goes a long way. Overall very pleased with their approach and how things have progressed for me over the past few weeks so far. Would highly recommend to anyone needing a little PT. I had my consult with Dr. Jill on Jan 20th and my first PT appointment on the 24th. I was very impressed by Dr. Jill, especially with how she listened to me and developed exercises specific to my therapy needs. So happy I chose Professional PT!
